One Battle After Another (Week 3)

And we're back! This was an extraordinarily busy week for us after the release of BattleFX. We are still catching up on emails and hotfixes. As you may have seen, we've already rolled out a few BattleFX patches. These cover fixes for the worst two bugs (the plugin wasn't scanning correctly in Pro Tools, and the manual wasn't opening from the options page). We still have more fixes coming, including license key pasting not working in some DAWs.

Your response to BattleFX so far has exceeded our wildest expectations. After four days, BattleFX had more licenses generated than unfilteredaudio.com had sold total in the 14 years prior. Yesterday we were seeing one checkout every 20 seconds. So far the new license server has held strong, but we've had a few hiccups that we're still investigating. The biggest two are 1) Anti-virus/malware programs are flagging uadrm.com since it's a new domain, and 2) some regions seem to be blocked from accessing the download, so we're looking into those.

Now, with that out of the way, let's get to the fun announcements this week. The main theme this week is "platforms", and judging from our inboxes (RIP), a lot of you will be happy.

First and foremost, BattleFX is now out on Linux as a VST3! This is a public beta at the moment, and we will add it to the download portal in a few days. For now, here's a link for the super cool blog readers: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/u2su262c5pigy4s7opdrz/BattleFX-1.0.2-linux.tar.gz?rlkey=swkaj3h3r80otbkfmovb4kox6&dl=0
This has been tested in REAPER on Linux Mint 22, but it *should* work on Ubuntu 20+ and similar Debian flavors. Please report any oddities there.

Next up, the most popular request in my inbox this week: BattleFX on iOS! Like the Linux build, this is currently available as a public beta. It's been a tradition to post our iOS betas on the excellent Loopy Pro forum, so you can grab the TestFlight link there: https://forum.loopypro.com/discussion/68530/unfiltered-audio-battlefx-public-beta If you don't want to deal with TestFlight, I imagine it should be on the App Store in a week or two since we haven't received any bug reports.

Finally, let's talk about hardware! We have two announcements here, and both are a lot of fun.

First, up, we now have Battalion running on the 4ms MetaModule! If you're not familiar with the MM, it's a powerful Eurorack module that is capable of running patches exported from VCV Rack, or patches built directly on the interface. We have the whole Battalion VCV module suite running here. I've sent the plugin over to Dan at 4ms, so it should be available from the 4ms portal soon. In the meantime, if you have a MetaModule and want to dive in sooner, have at it! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/f0bgvfpyq67svuhwga893/Battalion-v2.0.0.mmplugin?rlkey=a10ngooabqj4glgb6p452yuki&dl=0

Last but not least, Superbooth was filled with many exciting announcements. My personal favorite was the reveal of the Dadamachines tbd-16, a portable and open-source drum machine (or MIDI controller, or effects box, or lo-fi Doom box, or...). Immediately after this was announced, I emailed Dadamachines to kick off the porting conversation. Imagine my surprise when they responded in the middle of the show with all of the development details. I'll cut to the chase: We're going to port Battalion to this box! The engines will be compiled from the same code used in Battalion, and it sounds like the tbd-16 macro system will give us the opportunity to port the performance page as well. Huzzah! I'll know more once I have the box in my office, so stay tuned.

Next week is the grand finale! We can't wait to show you what we've been working on, but in the meantime, back to getting on top of my inbox!

Best,
Michael
